October 5, 2001
DRACUT, MA. -
The Dracut High School Girls Soccer team fell to MVC rivals Andover 4 - 2 on Friday afternoon.
The Middies now stand at 6 - 3 -1 overall and 5 - 2 - 1 in the Merrimack Valley Conference.
Senior Captain Kacie McGlasson scored 1:30 into the second half to give Dracut the lead. Jen Fontaine assisted on the goal.
Andover got on the board first at the 20 minute mark when senior and league MVP Katie Kramer put a shot pass Dracut's freshman keeper Jen Cole. Kramer also scored Andover's third goal when she run by a Dracut defender and blast a shot in the right corner of the net giving Andover a 3 - 0 lead. Andover closed out the half with another goal.
"We started off on the right foot. Then all of a sudden we lost focus. After that it was all downhill and we couldn't recovered, said Head Coach Wayne Currie. In the second half we played much better but when you are down 4 - nil against a quality team like Andover, it is very difficult to score 4 or 5 goals in one half."
In the second half a different Dracut team took the field. Senior forward Sarah Dahlingher got the Middies on the board off a direct kick from Kelly Nicolls. Two minutes later Dahlinger scored her second goal of the game when she took a pass from Jen Fontaine and slid it under the Andover Keeper.
Keeper Micheala Anthony came in the second half and held Andover scoreless.
Playing well for the Middies were Amanda Stafford and Sue Kelly.
The Middies will return to action Tuesday when they entertain Haverhill in a non-league game at 3:30 p.m.
